Maningrida Arts and Culture
(Arnhem Land)
Situated at the mouth of the Liverpool River in northern Arnhem Land, Maningrida Arts & Culture supports artists from the main township and many surrounding homelands. Established in 1973, it is one the longest running art centres, and currently operates under the auspices of Bawinanga Aboriginal Corporation.
Bridging a diverse community of more than 20 language groups, the art from this region is marked by these locales: the fine, tight raark of the inland Kuninjku to the thicker, looser, saltwater designs of Burrara. Many artists are interdisciplinary, working in bark painting, fibre weaving, woodcarving and printmaking.
