Jilamara Arts and Crafts
(Tiwi Islands)
Situated on the north-west of Melville Island, 100 km from Darwin, Jilamara Arts and Crafts Association has been representing Tiwi artists at Milikapiti since 1989.
The Tiwi word Jilamara describes ‘design’ based on ceremonial ochre markings on the body. The Tiwi palette of red, yellow, white and black are made from natural ochre pigments collected on Country around Milikapiti and prepared in the studio.
