The Rictors

7 - 15 Aug. Opening Event 1:30pm, Thursday 7th August @ George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens Event Centre

The Rictors is an exhibition celebrating the extraordinary art and story of Mick, Ian, and Noli Rictor—three brothers who belonged to the last uncontacted family of hunter gatherers who were reunited with family by an Aṉangu-led expedition in 1986.

On a fateful day in 1986, deep within the heart of Spinifex Country, the Rictor family experienced a profound reunion with long-lost kin. What unfolded was more than a familial reconnection—it marked the quiet emergence of artistic voices that had long been unrealised. Unseen by both the Rictors and the broader world, a profound cultural legacy was stirring. Over the next few decades the birth of the Spinifex Arts Project would take place, cementing the brother’s practice in the canon of the contemporary art world. The brothers forging their unique practices through their intimate knowledge of country. The Rictors explores the story and the art behind the extraordinary lives of three brothers; Mick, Ian and Noli Rictor.
