Jiwibany Marjad Wardam Purru
In association with Warmun Art Centre
Jiwibany Marjad Wardam Purru (The Morning Star is the Leader for All the Stars) is a group exhibition from Warmun Art Centre, the Gija-owned institution whose artists have shaped contemporary Aboriginal art since the late 1990s. Anchoring the exhibition is Patrick Mung Mung, senior custodian of Gija cultural stories and keeper of Ngarranggarni (Dreaming) knowledge.
The exhibition charts a path for that knowledge to be passed on to the younger Gija men painting alongside him, a generation now learning to carry these stories forward. Together, their signature ochre palette and deep connection to Country are unmistakable.
